An old photograph of Gnosall , Staffordshire showing the old Lock up cell (jail for temporary detention of minor offenders) on the left. In the Domesday Book it was named Geneshale and had 12 inhabitants. they can be found throughout Britain but they fell out of use with the coming of the County Police Act in 1839 when police stations with their own cells were introduced.
