A Roman bronze lamp with tripod stand, 1st/2nd century Cast bronze complemented by cold-working. Made of two pieces. The lamp in the shape of a bearded comedian's mask, the mouth - which was filled with oil - wide open, expressive eyes, the brows and nose distinctively shaped. Incl. a tripod stand terminating in three stylised, flared animal legs with accurately fitting mounting. Finely chiselled. Height cm. Slightly spotted patina, small chipping at the front of the wick hole, small repair at the stem. Cf. Peter La Baume, Römisches Kunstgewerbe, 1983,
