Schizanthus pinnatus (X ). J,'' the well-known Soldanellas of the Alps. It may be readily distinguished from Soldanella (which is a member of the primrose family) by the leaves being toothed, and the stamens 4 instead of 5. The name 'Fringed Soldanella' has been proposed for Schizocodon, but all Soldanellas are fringed. 'Fringed Galax' would be better, as Galax is the nearest relative, Schizocodon being, in fact, the Japanese representative of the American Galax. The leaves of Schizocodon are sometimes more or less bronzy,
