Serres, Greece. 19th Apr, 2014. Greek Orthodox Christians celebrate Resurrection of Jesus Christ in Serres, Greece on April 19, 2014. Easter, also known as Resurrection Sunday, celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Christians believe that Jesus was crucified on Good Friday, and rose from the dead after three days on Easter Sunday. Easter Sunday marks the end of Lent, a 40-day period of fasting, prayer and penance, and is followed by a 50-day period called Eastertide, which ends with Pentecost Sunday. The Holy Fire is brought in Greece every year from the church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem, traditionally believed to be the burial site of Jesus Christ . Egg tapping, or also known as egg fight, egg knocking, egg pacqueing, egg picking, or egg jarping is a traditional Easter game. In English folk traditions, the game has variously been known as "shackling", "jarping" or "dumping". The rule of the game is simple. One holds a hard-boiled egg and taps the egg of another participant with one's own egg intending to break the other's, without breaking one's own. As with any other game, it has been a subject of cheating; eggs with cement core, alabaster, and even marble eggs have been reported.
