Water Hyacinth, Eichhornia crassipes Exotic weed causing man made problem of aquatic environment

The Water hyacinth is a native of the Orinoco drainge basin in South America but has escaped from ornamental ponds in many parts of the world to become a serious hazardous pest plant. Huge mats form on Lake Kariba and in bad years the boom in growth leaves large areas unnavigable and depletes the waters productivity.
