Situated to take advantage of the elevation and absence of man-made light, is the Campo Imperatore Near-Earth Object Survey (CINEOS), an observatory branch of Rome Observatory. It's located on top of the plateau of Campo Imperator, at an altitude of 2,130 m on the slopes of Monte Portella , in the Gran Sasso d'Italia massif , within the Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga National Park, near L'Aquila, Abruzzo, Italy
