Leavesoblong, lanceolate-oblong or ovate-oblong, acute orobtuse and mucronate at the apex, narrowed orrounded at the base, glabrous above, sometimes^ pu-bescent beneath, 2-6 long, ¥-3 wide; petioles i-6long, or sometimes none; cymes dense; pedicelsshort, bracteolate at the base; calyx-segments aboutas long as the tube of the greenish-white corolla;corolla-lobes nearly erect; follicles similar to thoseof the preceding species. In fields and thickets, Connecticut to Wisconsin, Ala-bama, Tennessee, Missouri and Kansas, perhaps extend-ing farther north. Rheumatism-root. Wild
