An Elizabethan warning beacon. These beacons will be lit to celebrate Queen Elizabeth ll's Diamond Jubilee in 2012

These beacons will be lit across Britain on June 5th 2012 to celebrate Queen Elizabeth ll's 60 year reign. For hundreds of years fire has been used as a way of sending warning messages of impending attack or invasion, or possibly as a means passing on good news. This type of beacon was used in Britain and is usually associated with the Elizabethan era, (Elizabeth 1st), especially in regard to the Spanish Armada
