Red Palm Mite

The red palm mite (Raoiella indica), an invasive species in the Caribbean, threatens several important palm trees and other plants found in the southern United States, including date palm, coconut palm, and bananas. Note the stylet poked into the leaf stoma. Feeding mites can cause severe leaf yellowing and reduced fruit yield. Magnified about 300x.
