Nylon pilot production factory. Pilot plant in which the nylon process was proved out and tested before it was put into large-scale commercial use. Nylon was a new material discovered by the DuPont Company in 1935. Production methods were tested at this pilot plant in Wilmington, Delaware, USA, with full-scale industrial scale taking place from 1939 at its factory in Seaford, Delaware. This photograph dates from around the 1940s.
