The Ranger's House is situated on the edge of Greenwich Park in Blackheath. It was originally built by Admiral Hosier at the end of the 17th century and added to during the 18th century. In future years the house was owned and occupied by a number of people including the Earl of Chesterfield and Princess Sophia Mathilda of Gloucester. It was first used as the official residence of the Ranger of Greenwich Park in 1816 and was acquired and restored by the LCC in 1897. Since 2002 the house has contained the Wernher Collection of art comprising paintings, tapestries, jewellery, sculpture and furniture. The house is now in the care of English Heritage.
