26,546 fans pack The Valley to see Charlton beat Stevenage in League 1. The club offered football for a fiver (£5) and were rewarded with Charlton's biggest post-war attendance in the third tier. Michael Morrison fired them ahead with a superbly struck half volley, Wright-Phillips made it two with a right-footed strike that deflected off Stevenage defender Ronnie Henry.
