For over eight centuries matcha green tea has been the central ingredient of the Japanese tea ceremony. Its popularity is now extending to other countries as a health drink and stimulant. The latter is due the caffeine content. The powdered form allows a more concentrated form of the drink than the leaf contains flavonoids that have an antioxidant effect and is rich in nutrients, fiber, and give the drink a distinctive taste.
