A portrait of Albert Pierrepoint (1905-1992) from Clayton West Yorkshire who was Britain's most prolific hangman. It was in effect a family business as his father, Henry, and uncle Thomas were both official hangmen before his career he hung a large number of criminals including those convicted of war crimes. He also hung Ruth Ellis, the last woman to be hung in Britain, and the wartime traitor William Joyce (also known as Lord Haw-Haw)
