Quabbin Boats in Winter, Quabbin Reservoir
This image is one of a serious of images of the Frank E. Winsor Dam. The Winsor Dam is one of two major structures that hold back the various rivers and create the Quabbin Reservoir. It is located inside Quabbin Park, in Ware and Belchertown, Massachusetts. The Quabbin Reservoir provides the drinking water for approximately two million residents of eastern Massachusetts. It is owned and managed by the State's Division of Conservation and Recreation. The water is owned by the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority. The Reservoir was created in the late 1930's and 40's. In the process, four towns were taken completely by imminent domain and several thousands residents were moved from their land.
