The test itself is provided with a perforated plate-like structure: the madreporite, that forms the intake for its water-vascular system. Ce squelette calcaire sur lequel s'articulent les piquants s'appelle le test, son sommet est muni d'une plaque criblée de trous, bien visible ici et qui porte le nom de madréporite.
