Endemic fan palms, Chamaerops humilis, palmitos in Sant Elm, viewing Dragonera, Mallorca, Balearic islands, Spain.

The Palmito (Chamaerops humilis), or Mediterranean fan palm, is Mallorca’s only autochthonous palm tree, native to the hot dry hills and mountains around the Mediterranean Sea and protected in Mallorca. The leaves are traditionally used for basket weaving and other handmade craft objects, such as brooms, brushes, chair seats, hats, mats, ropes and fans. It is the northernmost naturally occurring palm in the world and survives forest fires.
