Sea surface salinity, Aquarius image. Computer model showing the salinity (dissolved salt-content) of the Western Pacific Ocean, based on information recorded by the Aquarius spacecraft from December 2011 to December 2012. Salinity is colour-coded, from lower levels (blue) to higher levels (red). Understanding salinity, the amount of dissolved salts in water, helps to better understand the water cycle and can lead to improved climate models. Aquarius is a collaboration between NASA and the Space Agency of Argentina.
