A male lion in the Masai Mara Kenya grabs 40 winks after lunch. Female lions are smaller than the males and lack a mane. Males begin to show mane growth at abouth one and a half years old. They are fully developed at about five or six years. Some males do not grow very fine manes and in some areas such as the Tsavo National Park in Kenya most male lions do not grow a mane at all.
