July 10, 1907, this caterpillar was re- ported as a pest in the vicinity of Or- lando, Fla., where it was attacking the fronds of potted maidenhair ferns. It was rioticed that the larvaj usually fed at night, although sometimes found feeding during the day. They concealed themselves in the daytime at the base of the ferns or were found resting low on the stems, and they appeared to have a habit of crawling up the stem and eating oflf several leaflets on one side, thus spoiling the beauty of the plants. The larva; observed began to transform to pupa; August 1. During September of the same year several growers at Anacostia, D. C. made complaint that this caterpillar was injurious to several species of ferns in greenhouses. September 24 a govern- ment entomologist was detailed to ob- tain additional specimens and make ob- servations on the habits of the insect and the conditions of the greenhouses Larva; were obtained in different stages GUDE fLORISTS I2U F VVASMINOTONDC Members Florists' TeleKraph Delivery.
