A sample US Census form is seen in New York

A sample US Census form using the older term Negro is seen in New York on Tuesday, January 12, 2010. The census, which starts in March 2010, is a count of everyone living in the United States, citizens and non-citizens. By law it is conducted every 10 years and the information is used to reapportion congressional districts as well as affecting the distribution of government funds. (© Richard B. Levine)
