A young Western Larch tree, Larix occidentalis, grows among a group of young ponderosa pine trees. Larch trees turn gold in the fall just before losing their needles for the winter. They are the only evergreen tree that sheds its needles. These are in the Metolius Natural Area, Oregon Cascade Mountains.
