Lily reproductive parts. Close-up of the stamens and carpel of a hybrid garden lily. Lilies display three-fold symmetry in their floral parts. Here, the tips of the six stamens are the anthers (dark red), which are the pollen-bearing structures. Each pollen grain contains the male sex cell of the plant. Each anther is supported by a stalk called a filament. At the centre of the stamens is the carpel, which consists of the style (green column) that terminates at the tip of the carpel in the stigma (purple, also of three-fold symmetry. The stigma's surface is where pollen grains are deposited during pollination, which can lead to fertilisation.
