Goddess Diana


In Roman mythology, Diana was revered as the goddess of the moon (note the crescent above her head in this engraving), of forests, of animals, and of women in childbirth. She was identified with the Greek Artemis, goddess of the hunt. This painting is by the Italian master Correggio (1494-1534) is housed in the monastery of St. Ludovico in Parma, Italy.
