Madagascar hissing cockroach (Gromphadorhina portentosa). This wingless insect, part of the giant cockroach family (Blaberidae), can reach lengths of 5-8 centimetres. It is a popular pet and school exhibit. It characteristic hissing sound is made by expelling air from holes (spiracles) in its abdomen. It is native to the rainforests of Madagascar.
