Sea whips. Several sea whips (Junceella sp.) on a sandy seabed. These are formed by colonial animals related to corals. Tiny polyps filter plankton from the water using their tentacles. Sea whips avoid predation as their hard exterior contains chemicals which are unpalatable to fish.
