Lucius Conant was born Sept. 29, 1799, inMansfield, Conn., where during the earlier part ofhis life he followed the business of manufacturingsteelyards and augers. In his later years he op-erated a grist mill in Gurleyville, and in 1845 ^^^went into a silk mill as an overseer. His connectionwith the silk industry continued during the re-mainder of his active life, and his death occurredin Mansfield, Nov. 10, 1869.
