Lined leaftail gecko. Close-up of the head and front foot of a Lined leaftail gecko (Uroplatus lineatus). Leaftail geckos are endemic to Madagascar and some of its surrounding islands. They are nocturnal and arboreal, spending most of their time during the day sleeping amongst plant growth and trees. Like most leaftail geckos, the lined leaftail's body has developed to look like the bark of the trees it lives on, as a form of camouflage. Also shown are the large rounded pads on the end of the toes, which allow all geckos to cling to the surface of seemingly impossible objects. Photographed in the Montagne des Francais Reserve, Madagascar.
