An early satirical satirical caricature of Sir Michael Foster (1836 – 1907) as a bat wearing a mortar board. He was an English physiologist instrumental in organizing the Cambridge Biological School .He was also Secretary of the Royal Society and was the father of experimental Physiology in Cambridge. The cartoon reflects his job of separating different species and likens the Liberal party to birds and the Tories to also founded The Journal of Physiology.
