Cabral (c. 1567 - 1520) is credited as being the discoverer of Brazil. He died in Santarem, where he is buried. The Treaty of Tordesillas (Tratado de Tordesilhas) was signed during his lifetime, dividing the world between Spanish and Portuguese spheres of influence.
