The grave of Private Butcher of the 3rd Regiment, South African Infantry died on the 15th of July 1916 at the age of 26 Delville Wood Cemetery is the third largest cemetery in in the Somme battlefield area and contains 5,523 burials of which two-thirds are are 5,242 UK burials, 152 from South Africa, 81 from Australia, 29 from Canada and 19 from New Zealand. Almost all of the casualties date from July to September 1916 and are from the battle of Delville Wood.
