A circa 1900 portrait of Reverend William H. Murray, (of the Scottish Bible Society) missionary to China. Murray was disabled, having lost his left arm as a 9 year old child in a sawmill machinery accident. In China he developed a script for the blind using a system of embossed dots similar to Braille which also helped sighted foreigners learn Mandarin.
