Louis Pasteur in his laboratory at the Ecole normale supérieure in 1885, the year the rabies vaccine was developed. In his right hand , he holds a vial containing the spinal cord of a rabbit infected with the rabies virus, which will then be used for the manufacture of vaccines against rabies.
