American Douglas SBD-3 "Dauntless" divebomber, flying over an American Essex-class heavy combat aircraft carrier in the Pacific, 1944-45. The Dauntless, of which 5,936 planes were built,  was one of the best planes aboard carriers. A real workhorse, it participated in all the great naval battles in the Pacific, beginning with the battle of the Coral Sea, May 7, 1942.
