The performers on stage are NSWCDD scientists and engineers. Renta, the event's guest speaker, founded the Semilla Cultural nonprofit organization to cultivate a community that embraces diversity by educating, promoting and disseminating Puerto Rican culture and traditions. The Bomba is a dialogue between the primo drummer and the dancer where the dancer dictates the rhythm of the percussion and the drummer follows the dancer's body and skirt movements. The primo drummer improvises as the dancer challenges the drummer to follow the dancer's improvised movements, called piquetes.
