During 2019-21 street demonstrations took place in many Chilean cities highlighting inequality and constitutional issues outstanding from the late 20th century military dictatorship. The militarised police force used tear gas and rubber bullets, frequently aiming at the faces of protesters, and many hundreds suffered eye loss and sight damage.
