Upper ramparts at SE entrance of Cadbury Castle Iron Age hillfort. Dark Age phase of fort is associated with Arthur's Camelot.

View NE at the upper ramparts & rock-cut ditch at the SE entrance of Cadbury Castle hillfort. The fort has several phases of Iron Age ramparts, one with a foundation sacrifice, a C1stAD Romano-Celtic temple & C5thAD refortification & settlement associated with King Arthur: Cadbury Camelot. The skeleton of a young male was placed head-downwards into a pit within the bank when the SE upper rampart was enlarged. Stone facing of inner rampart visible beyond entrance (marked by thorn tree) is post-Medieval: designed to let cattle graze banks while keeping them off corn grown inside the fort.
