Taconite. Taconite is an iron-rich (20-30%) sedimentary rock, in which iron-bearing layers alternate with quartz, chert, or carbonate. The iron content of taconite is usually in the form of finely dispersed magnetite. Processed taconite pellets as used in the steel-making industry. This sample is 8cm heigh.
