Recovery Buckets. Recovery Buckets Immediately after surgery, fish are placed in buckets containing super-oxygenated water. This allows them to recover from the effects of the anesthesia and gives biologists the opportunity to assess their post-operative condition. The white timer on top of the bucket keeps track of how long fish have been in recovery water. Fish are not loaded onto the transport truck until they have had sufficient recovery time and exhibit normal behavior.
