Sow in drills 1 foot apart and 1 inch deep, as early as the ground can be worked ; when the plants are large enough thin out to stand 6 inches apart in the rows; continue for a succession as late as the middle of July. The Sugar and Mangel Wurzel varieties are grown for feeding stock, and should be sown from April to June in drills 2 feet apart, and afterwards thinned out to stand 1 foot apart in the rows; keep well cultivated. To preserve Beets during the winter select a dry piece of ground and put about 20 bushels in a pile, covering with sufficient
