Rodder, the Frigate Jylland at Ebeltoft Maritime Center. Ebeltoft. Denmark.

The Steering-wheel, Frigate Jylland at Ebeltoft Maritime Center. Ebeltoft. Denmark. The Frigate (Frigatten) Jylland (Jutland) was launced November 1860 and was with its crew of 430 sailors one of the worlds biggest wooden ships at all. 4 years later, in 1864, it took part in the war against Austria and Preussen. Ten years later it was promoted to the Royal Ship. The Frigate Jutland is now a museum ship and is completely restored. The restoration work started in 1989 and took 5 years. About half of the total cost of 120 million DKK was founded by Maersk Mc-Kinney Moeller (Mersk AP Moeller). The Frigate Jutland is owned by the independent institution, The Frigate Jutland Society. The Frigate is ofcourse the pearl of the museum and a walk through the impressive ship gives a good insight in how the sailors lived and the might of the warship. The museum also features a traditional and working shipyard, where visitors can walk around and see the old trade of shipbuilding, rope makers at work etc. Old sailing ships are still being restored here.
