Gloster Meteor F Mark I, the first British jet fighter and the Allies' only jet aircraft to achieve combat operations during World War II, part of No. 616 Squadron RAF on the ground at Manston, Kent, England. In July 1944 the unit became the first squadron to receive jet equipment in the form of Gloster Meteor fighters. The first Meteor operational sortie was on 27 July from RAF Manston when it intercepted V-1 flying bombs launched against southern England, with one V1 tipped over after a pilot's cannon jammed and another was shot down.

Whilst the aircraft and other details remain exactly the same, the bleached out sky in the original image has been replaced.
