Female chacma baboon (Papio ursinus) carries juvenile on her back. Kruger National Park South Africa

The chacma baboon lives in large troops which can contain over 100 individuals. It inhabits the savanna and scrubland of southern Africa. A troop is led by dominant males, and a strict and complex hierarchy exists. The chacma baboon mainly eats plant matter, but small mammals and eggs are taken on occasion. It is among the largest of the baboons.
