Ancient Egyptian Book of the Dead papyrus scroll for Chonsu-mes, c 100 BC, 21st Dynasty, Thebes. Kunsthistorisches Muesum Vienna AS 3859. Papyrus, L 410 cm, H 15,5 .Chonsu-mes amd Isis kneeling pay homage to Horus (falcon). The Book of the Dead was a compilation of spells which should enable the deceased to gain entry to the underworld. This particular example consists almost entirely of scenes; the text amounts only to names.
