Shaft of light bursts through monsoon clouds onto paddy fields near Godavari south of Kathmandu
Taken October 2004 looking out over contributaries of the Bagamati river in the south of the Kathmandu valley. Tourists travelling to the increasingly popular and picturesque village of Bungamati would pass this spot. The brooding dark sky is typical of late monsoon and creates marvellous images when a shaft of light does break through. With the high levels of rain favourable temperatures and lots of sun subsistence farmers are able to get several crops a year from each field. The vibrant rich green is characteristic of rice and the paddies are filled with incredible colour at this time of year much brighter than the second spring crop harvested before the monsoon arrives in May or June
