Department of Agriculture, Bureau of Chemistry,Washington, , July 31, : I beg to submit for your inspection and approval the resultsobtained in an investigation made in this bureau by F. P. Veitch andM. G. Donk on the distillation of resinous woods, especially theproduct wood turpentine. The investigation has been in progressfor several years, and although certain phases on which work is beingcontinued are not complete, it is deemed advisable to publish at thistime the results so far obtained. Many inquiries are received forinformation on the subject of resinous-wood distillation, and it isbelieved that the data herein given will be helpful, and also willfurther promote the profitable utilization of large quantities of wastewood. I recommend that this report be published as Bulletin No. 144 ofthe Bureau of Chemistry. Kespectfully, H.
