Median nail dystrophy on a patient's fingernails

Median nail dystrophy on a patient's thumbnail. This is a longitudinal splitting or canal formation in the midline of the nails occurring at the cuticle and proceeding outward as the nails grow. The cause is not known, although it may be caused by picking at the cuticles. The condition is also known by dystrophia unguis mediana canaliformis or solenonychia.
