Breede River Yellowwood (Podocarpus elongates) with new shouts sprouting on the nearly 100 years old trunk Kirstenbosch National


On 1 November 2005 a gale force wind blown down this nearly 100 years old tree. Podocarpus elongatus has the ability to re-sprout from epicormic buds which spring to life when exposed to light and send out shoots to repair the damage.
