An 1822 portrait of Manuel Amador Guerrero (1833-1909) former 1st President of Panama. Guerrero came from Turbaco, Colombia, and started working on the Panama Railroad as a doctor. Later he became postmaster and an exporter before becoming District Administration. He is perhaps best known for working with his brother Jose Amador with the French company building the Panama Canal in 1879, introducing the gold balboa coin and with commissioning the national anthem, written by members of his family.
