Grey-headed kingfisher (Halcyon leucocephala) perching on the end of a branch. The grey-headed kingfisher is often found near rivers or streams but, unlike most other kingfishers, it is not aquatic and is common to scrub and woodland. Grey-headed kingfishers have a wide distribution from the Cape Verde Islands off the north-west coast of Africa to Mauritania, Senegal and Gambia, east to Ethiopia, Somalia and southern Arabia and south to South Africa. Typically prey is insects and small lizards. Photographed in Kenya in September.
